When John met Sasha, a 6-month-old lab mix from Virginia, she was underweight, underfed, and covered with fleas and fly bites. He and his wife fell in love with the scrawny mutt, and adopted her into their family.
Soon, Sasha was diagnosed with a chicken allergy, forcing John to carefully read the labels on every can and bag of dog food. What he learned about commercial pet food disgusted him. It is full of animal by-products, synthetic vitamins, and broth in place of real meat, ingredients he would never feed to someone he loved.
John has spent most of his life feeding people, so he did what he’s been trained to do: he started cooking delicious, wholesome meals, this time for his dogs. After intensive research, consultation with veterinarians, chefs, pet owners, and industry experts, and lots of experimentation, The Well Fed Dog was born.
All Well Fed Dog recipes are formulated to provide complete and balanced nutrition for all stages of your dog’s life. Our food is made fresh, in small batches, and loaded with real meat and fresh vegetables. We use no synthetic vitamins, artificial colors, or preservatives, and John hand-selects every ingredient that enters his kitchen.
The Well Fed Dog knows you value convenience as well as quality, so we deliver our freshly made foods right to your door. You can even add locally made dog treats and eco-friendly chew toys to your order.

John Edwards, Founder and CEO
John lives in Newton, MA, with his wife, infant daughter, and dogs Sasha and Maggie, another rescue dog. After years as a line cook, waiter, and restaurant manager, John switched gears, getting his MBA and spending the last decade in banking. Inspired by his family to follow his dreams and return to what he loves, John recently left the industry to start The Well Fed Dog. When he’s not cooking, he enjoys going on adventures with the whole family. Their favorite good-weather destination is the creek at Crow’s Pasture in East Dennis, MA, where the dogs love playing in the water.
He has learned some of his most important life lessons from his dogs: Greet each morning as a new day, live in the moment, and never, never, ever give up.
